An anecdote told by the technical manager at Apex Co.

FADE IN : Pam : All in all, it was a great trip. I enjoyed it very much.

David : Speaking of travel, you'll never believe what happened to me the other day when I went to our company headquarters. It's the most incredible story.

You know that I was supposed to present our latest discoveries at the general Research and Development meeting in Detroit, just as I do every year.

Well, I took the plane to Detroit and  went to the baggage claim to pick up my luggage.
And you know what ? There was nothing there! All our luggage had been sent to Djakarta.
You can imagine how worried I was.

Pam : Yes, I certainly can. What did you do then?

David : Well, I inquired about it but all they could do at the airport was take our luggage identification number and make a note of the address where they could reach us.
But hang on ! That's not all !

Pam : What ! You mean you had other problems ?

David : Worse than that. You won't believe it ! All my documents, (you know the notes for my presentation, the drawings and figures, the drafts for the patents) , they were all in my suitcase. That was stupid of me, I know. But I had to leave home in such a hurry that I did not even have time to sort out my things properly.

Pam : Frankly that was not very smart of you, was it ?. So, how did you manage for the meeting, then ?

David : Well, fortunately my secretary here in Richmond had all the original papers. So I asked her to fax me all the documents to the head office in Detroit. Moreover, the next day, my luggage was delivered to my hotel.

So all's well that ends well. Mind you, it just goes to show that leaving valuable documents in a suitcase isn't a good idea. Because you never know what might happen.

Pam : By the way, I wanted to ask you a question about the products to be patented. FADE OUT  Which one did they prefer ?
